Marriage equality is important to all New Yorkers. Strong families build strong communities and we should support the tens of thousands of committed gay and lesbian couples who call New York home.  Many of these couples have been together for decades.

Without access to marriage and the responsibilities that come with it, these couples will never be able to adequately protect and take responsibility for one another.  The New York State Senate has the opportunity to change this and recognize these couples under state law.

An April 2009 Siena Research Institute Poll found that 53 percent of New York voters support marriage equality. The data showed that a majority of New Yorkers from every region of the state supports passing a law allowing same-sex couples to marry.

Many other states already allow gay and lesbian couples to marry, including Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, and Vermont, and other states such as Maine and New Hampshire are engaging in the same conversation about marriage.

We need your help NOW to pass the marriage equality bill.

  • Take action here to let your state senator know that you want them to support marriage equality and expect them to vote to pass the bill this year.
