TRANScribe Project:
Advocating for Equality and Justice Through Our Stories

GUIDELINES FOR YOUR STORY SUBMISSION

Please start with some introduction statements about yourself.

  • Please include where in New York you are from (if you prefer to remain more anonymous, at least the county or region in New York).
  • Please share some parts of your life. For example: your family status (son, daughter, mother, husband, etc), your hobbies, profession or any other important pieces of your life that demonstrate you are more than just your trans identity.

Please write about your experience(s).

  1. What to include:
    • Introduce yourself according to guidelines above
    • Write a piece approximately 500 words in length
    • Discuss your own experiences using the “prompts” page for ideas

  2. What to AVOID:
    • NO sexually explicit or violent content
    • NO offensive or oppressive language or content
    • Avoid extensive or detailed information regarding medical transition
    • DO NOT out other individuals
    • DO NOT go over 1000 words in length

  3. Pride Agenda staff will be editing your submission for content, length, clarity and grammar. We reserve the right to edit your submission to fit the scope and goals of the TRANScribe project. We will work with you to ensure that your story remains your own and that you approve of the final product.

  4. You may elect to remain partially or fully anonymous in the publication of your story. You may choose to use just your first name, a pseudonym or your full name. However, you will need to agree to the terms of submission to participate and you must use your legal name for this agreement. The Pride Agenda will always respect your privacy and will honor requests for anonymity.

  5. We reserve the right to edit out content from our submissions that do not meet the guidelines and make no promises that all submissions will be used.

PHOTOGRAPH GUIDELINES

  1. Submitting a photo with your story is optional, but highly suggested. We all know that it makes a stronger impact on the reader when he/she/ze can connect an image with the words. Your photo can be of yourself, but if you are concerned about anonymity, you may submit a photo of yourself from a distance, from an angle or with lighting that makes you not identifiable. Alternatively, you could submit a photo of something that is personally connected to you, such as something you made or a place that is important to you.

  2. What to include when submitting a photograph:
    • Caption your photo
    • Submit one digital photograph

  3. What to AVOID:
    • NO nudity
    • NO sexually explicit or violent content
    • NO offensive or oppressive content
    • DO NOT out other individuals
    • DO NOT submit photographs with poor image quality

Since these photos may appear on our website and in educational materials indefinitely, you will also need to get a signed release form from the people in your photograph.
