Support for Marriage Equality

A solid majority of New Yorkers from across the state favor allowing all loving, committed same-sex couples to marry and protect their families. This support runs broad and deep, and here are some of the diverse voices that joined together to call for the passage of this landmark law.

Business for Marriage
New York Business for Marriage is a coalition of businesses and business people around New York who are standing up to voice their support for marriage equality here in the Empire State. These individuals and businesses all agree on one thing: Marriage equality is good for New York business. Support ranges from top corporations and business leaders to over 250 local businesses statewide.

Labor and Unions for Marriage
We are honored and proud to have our sisters and brothers from organized labor as partners in our fight to allow all loving, committed couples to marry in New York State. Unions have long stood for fairness for all, and for ensuring that our society treats everyone with dignity and respect. That is why it is fitting that unions -- along with most New Yorkers from across the state and from many different backgrounds – support marriage equality.

Faith for Marriage
An ever-increasing number of New Yorkers from many different backgrounds strongly support the right of loving same-sex couples to marry, as do many faith traditions and religious individuals across the state. It is important to recognize that marriage equality will not curtail freedom to worship, and that no religious institution would be required to marry same-sex couples.

Op-Eds and Editorials for Marriage
Respected editorial boards in media markets across the state have weighed in for marriage equality. These include the Press-Republican, Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, Newsday, The Journal News, Glen Falls Post-Star, Albany Times-Union, New York Observer, El Diario, Newsday, Watertown Daily Times and the New York Times.
